Bathrooms are the smallest rooms most people remodel and the least forgiving. Everything is packed tight, water is present on every surface, and the assembly that keeps that water out of the structure is buried where nobody will ever look at it again.
That last point is worth dwelling on. Tile and grout are not waterproof — water passes through grout. What protects the framing behind your shower is the membrane and detailing underneath, and it is invisible the moment tile goes on. It is the part of a bathroom we will happily talk you through in detail, and a fair thing to ask any contractor about.
How we run a bathroom
We handle the project from first measurement to final walkthrough: layout and design, permitting, ordering fixtures and materials, and every stage of construction. One team, one schedule.
Bathrooms reward decisions made early, because the work is so tightly sequenced. The position of a shower valve, whether a niche is lit, where blocking goes for a future grab bar — all of it is set while the walls are open and disruptive to revisit afterwards. We ask those questions sooner than feels necessary, for that reason.
What we build
Full remodels. Down to studs and back, including moving fixtures where the layout warrants it. Relocating a toilet is a larger undertaking than moving a vanity, and we will tell you which of your changes are straightforward and which are not.
Shower and tub conversions. Removing an unused tub for a larger walk-in shower is the most requested change we see. Curbless entries, frameless glass, benches and recessed niches all get resolved at the framing stage rather than improvised later.
Tile and stone. Layout is set out before anything is fixed, so cuts land where they should and the pattern resolves cleanly at edges and corners. Metal trim on exposed edges is the detail that most separates custom work from a standard tile job.
Vanities, fixtures and lighting. Light at the mirror positioned at face height rather than overhead. Storage recessed into the wall where floor area is tight. Ventilation sized for the room and vented outside, not into an attic.
Older homes
A good share of the bathrooms we open in San Diego County turn up something the previous work left behind. Plumbing run in a way nobody would specify now, framing modified without support, moisture damage that was tiled over rather than repaired.
We would rather find it and tell you than close the wall on it. When something is uncovered, you hear about it the same day, with what it means for the scope and the schedule.
