Building in Escondido
Escondido is well inland, and the climate shows it: hot afternoons, strong ultraviolet exposure, and far less marine influence than the coastal cities.
Sun is the dominant factor on anything exterior. Finishes fade and break down unevenly, with south and west elevations always weathering ahead of the rest of a house. Outdoor structures need to be planned around where shade actually falls at the hours you use the space, which is rarely the same as where a plan suggests.
Much of the housing stock dates from the 1960s through the 1980s, with original kitchens and bathrooms still in place in a good number of homes. Those layouts were designed for how people cooked and lived then — closed-off kitchens, small bathrooms with a tub nobody uses, storage that has not kept pace with a modern household.
That makes Escondido a place where layout changes earn their keep. Refinishing around a plan that stopped working thirty years ago is the most common missed opportunity we see.
