Building in Vista
Vista sits inland enough that the climate behaves differently from the coast — hotter afternoons, less marine influence, and stronger sun on south and west elevations.
That matters for exterior work and outdoor structures. Ultraviolet exposure breaks down finishes unevenly, so those faces of a house weather first. On decks, dark composite boards get genuinely hot underfoot in full afternoon sun, which is a real argument for lighter colours where people will be barefoot.
Shade becomes a design problem rather than a preference. A west-facing patio takes low, hard afternoon light that an overhead structure barely touches, and those spaces usually need something vertical on the sun side to be usable when you actually want to sit outside.
The housing stock is mixed, with a good number of homes from the 1960s through 1980s that have original kitchens and bathrooms. Those are the projects we see most — layouts that were normal then and are not now.
